Comparison between DJI Mavic Pro and GoPro Karma with GoPro Black 6
Drones are getting popular all over the globe because of their excellent features and top-rated advancements. The latest offerings of DJI Mavic Pro and Gopro Karma have brought a new revolution in the drone industry.
DJI and Gopro both are highly advanced, portable and compact drones. DJI holds its own built-in camera whereas GoPro drone is designed to work with several kinds of GoPro cameras.
The battle between these two drones is quite popular in the drone market and a lot of people keeps on comparing the features and specifications of both the drones.
Let’s we also have a healthy and genuine comparison between DJI and GoPro Drone below:
Folding Models and Size Dimensions
Having a drone that folds to a great minimal point makes the process of carrying it around and taking on adventures easy. Whenever we talk about some drone’s portability, there are two things that are considered for making the ultimate decision which are: the ease of getting the air in drone quickly and the flexibility of taking it everywhere.
When it comes to comparison between DJI and GoPro regarding folding drone model, it can be easily said that DJI Mavic Pro wins the game here. The DJI Mavic Pro Drone attains the shape of a compact block when we fold it. It comes to the size of Italian sandwich with its weight like a thick novel. GoPro Karma is also very good when it comes to folding but it takes longer time to get in the air once you unfold it. DJI Mavic Pro needs only 86 seconds to get ready and fly high in the air.
In the sport mode, the Mavic Pro can fly 40 mph (65 kph) whereas the Karma has a maximum speed of 35 mph (56.3 kph). So, we can see DJI is the winner here.
GoPro Karma Drone
When we observe the flight time, DJI holds a maximum flight of 21 minutes and can last up to 27 minutes. On the other hand, GoPro Karma stays airborne for at least 20 minutes because attaining its maximum flight which obviously does not look great overall. Here again, DJI provides better flight time as compared to GoPro.
GoPro Karma Drone
The DJI Mavic Pro can attain a height of 5,000 m which is 5,000 m above sea level. It can also hit 40mph and can cover the journey of 7km per hour before it actually loses transmission. The Karma, on the other hand reaches the height of 45000 m with 35mph and the max range of 3km. Thus, DJI has an edge over GoPro as it beats karma by 500m with respect to height and 6km with respect to travel time.
Besides that, GoPro Karma is not a lot of fun to fly because of its weight and large size. It is not that good in avoiding obstacles in air which is because of the fact that it does not have any in-built obstacle avoidance technology in it. It usually crashes at some point and the hard-to-install rotors break eventually. Plus, the GPS of Karma does not work as good as Mavic Pro’s does. This actually means that if you unfortunately lose GPS signal somewhere in the air, the drone will start floating in the air aimlessly.
GoPro Karma Drone
While talking about the picture quality of both drones, the Karma provides more clear and focused images as compared to Mavic Pro. The images of Mavic Pro show some kind of vibrancy and contrast in them than the GoPro Hero5 images. But, these problems can be solved by changing the settings of the DJI camera.
However, the camera of GoPro is more versatile but requires a little bit more setup. So, if you love having drones with great image quality, karma is a good option for you as compared to DJI.
Both the drones provide gimbal for 3-axis stabilization. DJI provides extensive range of -90° to +30° (pitch) as well as the ability to roll but the GoPro offers only the range of motion between -90° to 0° up and down. DJI wins in this aspect too.
DJI offers a controller of its own that you can connect to you mobile and see what is being filmed. So, you can actually control your DJI using your mobile. Besides that, it also offers a pair of googles for seeing what the drone camera can see. When you wear the googles, you can control the movement of drone with your head movement which sometimes can cause legal trouble when you are following the laws of keeping the drone within your sight.
GoPro also has its own controller but it looks a little outdated. It has a 5-inch touchscreen which shows real-time views of the drone’s camera with 720p resolution. There is also a GoPro Passenger app which allows others to control as well as view the drone camera which you are flying the drone.
Efficient Flight Modes
The Mavic Pro has built in sensors and cameras as obstacle avoidance system, movement control system, and object tracking system. Whereas, the Karma does not have any obstacle avoidance system and other such features. So, DJI is far better than GoPro because of its advanced features and technology that it holds in the drone.
Update - 2017.10.07It seems that GoPro has changed its Karma specs page since our original post yesterday. Instead of having a max operating distance of 1km, the page now says “up to” 3km.
